I draw from a number of different schools in my theoretical orientation, depending on your needs. However, since I work a lot with couples and families, I use many therapeutic interventions drawn from family systems. Family systems theory allows us to explore the interrelationships between family members so that you have a better understanding of how you are impacted by your environment and by your loved ones.
Together, we will identify beliefs and values adopted through family interactions. We will begin to understand how these beliefs affect the choices you make and the behavior patterns you are trying to change. I will help you to explore where patterns first set in. It is my experience that once you understand the driving forces behind your emotions and your life choices, you are no longer ruled by these patterns. Instead, you are free to explore alternative choices. These changes in perspective create a paradigm shift, allowing you to explore new avenues and possibilities.
Being in relationship is one of the most fascinating, rewarding, and often challenging experiences. If you would like to strengthen your relationship, expand your connection, increase intimacy, heal from a betrayal, build trust, learn to understand and value each other, and more, I am ready to guide you.
You don’t have to be struggling to benefit from couples work. Come and learn how to make your relationship work for you so that you gain a deeper understanding of yourself through your partner.
Families who come together in remarriage face unique challenges, as family members attempt to integrate different values and cultural influences. If you are considering remarriage, or you already have a blended family and you are experiencing some friction, please consider family therapy. Together we can help to build trust, learn to appreciate each other’s differences, and draw on each other’s gifts and strengths in order to create a unified family system.
Reshaping the Brain:
It has been my experience that clients are better able to make significant, lasting life changes when they are able to change their neuropathways, or reshape the brain. Brain research now shows that the brain is malleable, and old beliefs and cognitions once thought to be permanently hard-wired into the brain, can actually be altered or eliminated.
I employ two different powerful interventions to help remove negative cognitions and limiting beliefs and replace them with empowering ones:
Both of these interventions are safe and effective ways to address past traumas. If you or a loved one is struggling with anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of past traumas, we can explore whether EMDR and Lifespan Integration would be appropriate interventions for you.
For more information on these interventions and other techniques that I use, please visit the corresponding websites on the links page.
Still have questions about how I work? Please read what other clients have said about my approach to counseling found on the testimonials page, or feel free to contact me. I would be happy to answer any additional questions that you may have.
